CAG to verify values of energy resources to prevent any windfall gain

01 Jan 2022

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) is initiating the National Resource Accounting (NRA) process which demands for stricter monitoring and accounting of mineral and energy resources from the states.  All states and union territories have been directed to present their ‘assets account’ towards their mineral and energy resources for 2020-21 by March 2022, for the auditor to do the cross-verification of physical and monetary values of these assets. The exercise will include verification of income received by the exchequer through royalty from the extraction of mineral and energy resources, except oil and gas, which are under the centre, by private or public sector firms.
