Jammu is the most populous district in Jammu & Kashmir and the winter capital of the Union Territory. The project for development of Jammu as a Smart City was approved with a cost of Rs.36 bn. This includes a multilevel parking and commercial complex at the old bus stand of Jammu, upgrading of roads, improvement of lanes by-lanes, traffic islands, more parking spaces, etc. The project also includes providing of underground ducting for multiservice including power supply, smart power metering, LED lighting, etc. Many works concerning improving of overall aesthetic of Jammu city are either in progress or about to start soon. But measures like removal of overhead utilities and providing multiservice underground ducting is nowhere to be seen.
