Shimla proposes monorail to help boost tourism

Under the Smart City Mission, the Shimla Municipal Corporation proposes setting up a monorail service to attract more tourists, benefit local commuters, and increase the corporation’s income. According to city officials, it is so far only an idea and details are yet to be worked out. Some companies will be invited to conduct feasibility studies and tenders for the project will hopefully be floated the next two years to meet the Smart City Mission deadline. Sanjauli Tunnel to IGMC Hospital, Chhota Shimla to Lal & Sons and Chaura Maidan to CTO are some of the routes under consideration. Other fund-raising proposals include a ‘green tax’ on vehicles coming to Shimla from other states.
