The Union Cabinet has given its approval to a new railway station redevelopment policy for modernising railway stations. Nearly 600 railway stations have been shortlisted by the government for an investment of Rs 1 tn.
The Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC), the nodal agency for the projects, will be taking up engineering, procurement and construction related work. The lease period for the project has been increased to 99 years.
