The Meghalaya government has laid the foundation stone for an alternative road from Shillong to Guwahati via Rani-Azara Road. Rs. 196 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of the 79-km road, which is expected to be completed within two 2 years and will lessen the travel time from Shillong to Guwahati Airport. The existing route via AT Road is one of the busiest all round the clock and this leads to major traffic jams.
