Kerala's Vizhinjam port would be operational by 2023

01 Mar 2022

The country's first mother port will be operational at Vizhinjam (South Kerala) next year. The port, which will be commissioned in October 2023, will have a natural depth of 20 m and be 12 nautical miles from the international ship channel. Currently, the country relies significantly on the mother ports of Colombo, Singapore, and Dubai for transshipment of big cargos, incurring additional expense and time; however, once Vizhinjam,  at 16 km south of the state capital is operational, it will close the gap.
