New broad-gauge line from Rishikesh to Karnaprayag

Indian Railways is laying a new broad-gauge rail line, particularly for the benefit of pilgrims, from Rishikesh to Karnaprayag in Uttarakhand. Besides making train travel easier, the railway line is expected to play an important role in the development of the state, helping to promote tourism and trade while providing railway connectivity between five districts of the state. As reported, the 125-km line will pass through various prominent places, connecting Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Gauchar, Karnprayag, Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag and Chamoli. An amount of Rs.162.16 bn is likely to be spent on this Railways project, which is to be completed by December 2024.
