The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) started building a new vehicle underpass (VUP) for the national highway between Trichy and Madurai near Kodumbalur. A flyover with an underpass for vehicles to cross the highway worth Rs.150.4 million is included which will eliminate a hotspot for traffic accidents in the stretch connecting Manapparai and Pudukottai towns. As part of the plan, service roads measuring 670 m long and 7 m wide would be built on either side of the underpass to allow cars going to villages to avoid the highway without obstructing traffic.
