Kochi Metro Introduces Electric Feeder Buses

Kochi Metro has introduced a fleet of electric air-conditioned (AC) feeder buses to enhance last-mile connectivity and offer an eco-friendly transportation option for its commuters. Launched with an emphasis on convenience, sustainability, and seamless connectivity, these electric feeder buses aim to reduce the dependency on private vehicles and support Kochi’s efforts to decrease carbon emissions. Initially, these buses will serve key metro stations, providing direct, comfortable connections to nearby commercial, residential, and frequently visited areas.

The initiative aligns with Kochi Metro Rail Limited’s (KMRL) objective to make urban transport more integrated and sustainable. The electric buses are a step towards building an extensive multimodal transport network in Kochi, complementing the metro system and supporting the city’s clean energy goals. Equipped with modern amenities, these buses offer features such as GPS tracking, digital route displays, and comfortable seating to ensure a pleasant commuting experience.

In addition to reducing vehicular congestion and emissions, the electric feeder buses are expected to boost metro ridership by making it easier for people to access stations. This initiative is a part of a larger plan by KMRL to promote electric mobility and transition toward green public transport solutions across Kerala. The program’s scalability is under consideration, with potential plans for increased routes and frequency based on commuter demand and environmental benefits. The feeder buses also align with the state government's clean transport policy, emphasizing the integration of electric vehicles within public transit networks.

The launch of AC electric feeder buses underscores Kochi’s commitment to providing clean, accessible, and integrated transportation, setting an example for other cities seeking sustainable urban mobility solutions.
