Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Monday laid the foundation stone for a new clock tower at the junction of Mandir Marg and Shankar Road near Talkatora Stadium.

“I am hopeful that this upcoming clock tower will become a new landmark in the national capital, as it is strategically located at the intersection serving as the gateway to the NDMC area and will attract many visitors,” Saxena said.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is building the 27-foot structure at an estimated cost of Rs 18 million, with completion targeted within six months. The design will combine Mughal, colonial, and Hindu architectural styles.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Cabinet Minister Parvesh Verma, New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, NDMC Chairman Keshave Chandra, and other officials attended the event.

The tower will feature an octagonal structure of reinforced cement concrete, faced with clay bricks and decorative elements, and will house a two-metre diameter clock. The surrounding space will include granite flooring, steel railings, and marble detailing.
