Siliguri-Sikkim Railway Project to Be Completed by 2027: CM Tamang

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced that the long-awaited railway project connecting Siliguri's Sevok station in West Bengal to Sikkim is expected to be completed by 2027. The announcement came during the closing ceremony of the Discover Rabong Cho-Dzo Fest 2025.

The new line is expected to significantly improve access to the state for both domestic and international tourists. The government has also planned the construction of a highway between Melli and Singtam, further boosting connectivity.

Maintenance on National Highway 10 (NH10) is currently ongoing. Once finished, travel time between Siliguri and Sikkim is projected to reduce to two hours.

Meanwhile, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has constructed eleven Road Over Bridges and twenty-six Road Under Bridges between April 2024 and March 2025. In the same period, twenty-eight manned level crossings were eliminated, improving safety and reducing delays.

NFR officials confirmed that these upgrades, in collaboration with state and national agencies, are enhancing the region’s transport network, with measurable improvements in logistics, safety, and travel efficiency across the Northeast.
