BEML Unveils India’s First Indigenous 60 t Electric Dump Truck
The truck uses a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), a rugged gearbox and a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. BEML has designed the vehicle to produce zero tailpipe emissions during operation and to deliver the tractive effort, torque and gradeability required for heavy-duty work on gradients.
BEML has also developed a charging station solution intended to work with site electrical infrastructure and support fleet operations. The company estimates that the electric dump truck can provide operating cost savings of 40 to 60 per cent compared with conventional diesel-powered equipment, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 130 t per vehicle annually, depending on operating conditions.
The BH60-EV has a payload capacity of 54,500 kg with a rock body and a volumetric body capacity of 36.4 cubic metres. Its equipment includes a Roll-Over Protective Structure, emergency steering and sealed oil-cooled disc brakes. The electric platform is intended to reduce dependence on conventional fuel while improving energy efficiency, acceleration and the power-to-weight ratio.
The model follows BEML’s 35 t electric dump truck, launched on April 10, 2026, and takes the company’s electric equipment portfolio into higher-capacity mining and infrastructure applications. BEML Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy said the truck reflected the company’s move towards electric mobility for heavy industry, with indigenous engineering, battery technology, performance and safety at its core. The company operates across Defence and Aerospace, Mining and Construction, and Rail and Metro, with manufacturing facilities in Bengaluru, Kolar Gold Fields, Mysuru and Palakkad.
