State-owned miner Coal India reported that production in July 2026 grew eight point four four per cent to 50.36 million tonnes (mn t) and that supplies rose 18.38 per cent to 64.19 mn t, the highest ever offtake for the month. The company noted that the previous highest July supply was 60.5 mn t in 2024-25. This performance follows sustained operational momentum across its mines.

It said that June also delivered a record when supplies reached 65.95 mn t, and that cumulative coal supplies for the first four months of FY27, April to July, rose six point nine per cent to 262.04 mn t, the highest volume supplied for that period. The company noted that the earlier record for April to July was 259.4 mn t from 2024-25. Management attributed the trend to steady production despite heavy rain.

Supplies to the power sector, the largest consumer segment, increased 18 per cent to 49.77 mn t in July from 42.35 mn t a year earlier. Deliveries to the non-regulated sector rose 21 per cent to 14.42 mn t from 11.89 mn t over the same month. Overburden removal, a key mining activity, improved markedly with a 21.11 per cent increase to 120.35 million cubic metres (mn cubic metres) in July from 99.36 mn cubic metres a year earlier, supporting sustained output.

During April to July the company recorded overburden removal of 625.02 mn cubic metres, an increase of two point eight five per cent over the corresponding period of the previous financial year. The miner said it sustained strong supplies through a demand responsive inventory optimisation strategy that helped maintain a comfortable balance between production and deliveries. The statement indicated that operational resilience and inventory management underpinned the recent gains.
