Coal India Records 5.5% Growth In August Supplies
Deliveries to the non-regulated sector expanded by 9.6 per cent to 12.12 million tonnes in August, up from 11.06 million tonnes in the prior-year month. In the first five months of FY 2026-27, total coal supplies reached 322.90 million tonnes against 302.60 million tonnes in the same period the previous year, marking a growth of 6.7 per cent. The cumulative off-take demonstrates sustained commercial traction across regulated and non-regulated segments.
The higher off-take allowed CIL to liquidate around 55 million tonnes of pithead coal stocks during the first five months, easing inventory pressures. With approximately 76 million tonnes available at pitheads, the company holds sufficient buffer to support power generation requirements in the coming months. As intense rainy spells gradually recede and drier months approach, the firm has been preparing to ramp up both production and supplies. The release of pithead inventories aided timely dispatches and reduced bottlenecks in rail and road movement.
Management indicated that operational readiness and inventory management remain priorities to ensure uninterrupted coal flows to key sectors, particularly power. The performance through August underscores the firm's capacity to sustain supply momentum amid seasonal challenges. Operational teams will continue to monitor weather and transport links to maintain supply discipline.
