Coal India To Enable Open Market Power Sales

Coal India Ltd has taken steps to facilitate the sale of electricity in the open market and through power exchanges, aiming to improve utilisation of its captive power generation capacity. The initiative will enable the company to monetise surplus power and enhance revenue streams.
Officials said this move aligns with government reforms to promote market-based electricity trading and improve efficiency in the power sector. It will also give Coal India flexibility to respond to demand fluctuations and optimise resource use.
The company is working on necessary regulatory clearances and operational frameworks to ensure smooth implementation of the plan. The initiative is expected to contribute to greater competitiveness and transparency in the electricity market.
