Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has inaugurated a municipal solid waste-to-compressed biogas (CBG) plant and integrated CBG-CNG fuel station at Ghogha Dairy, marking a major step in the capital’s clean energy efforts.

The plant, set up under an MoU signed in January 2022 between the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), will process 100 tonnes of garbage each day to generate 4 tonnes of gas.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister said a new chapter was being written in the villages of rural Delhi. She added that the project would help realise the vision of a garbage-free capital and create a healthier future for coming generations.

Gupta contrasted the current administration’s efforts with the city’s earlier reputation for unmanaged waste. She highlighted that despite Delhi having hundreds of thousands of cattle producing large amounts of dung daily, not a single biogas plant existed before this initiative.
