L&T Wins Kuwait Oil Contract To Expand Crude Export Infrastructure

Larsen & Toubro has secured a major engineering, procurement and construction contract from Kuwait Oil Company to expand the Jurassic Light Oil crude export infrastructure. The award was made to the onshore vertical of L&T Energy Hydrocarbon and covers a lump-sum turnkey scope. L&T classifies major orders as contracts valued between Rs 50 billion (Rs 50 bn) and Rs 100 billion (Rs 100 bn). The deal represents a significant onshore energy contract for the company in the Gulf region.

Under the project, L&T will construct six crude oil storage tanks, each with an operating capacity of 618,000 barrels, together with associated handling and utility facilities. The scope includes laying new pipelines and upgrading Kuwait’s existing crude loading and export network. The work is intended to support higher production volumes and strengthen the country’s crude handling and export capacity.

The contractor will manage detailed engineering, procurement and construction for onshore systems, integrating storage, piping and loading installations to meet operational requirements and safety regulations. Project delivery will require coordination with local suppliers and subcontractors as well as adherence to Kuwait Oil Company’s technical specifications. The contract underlines L&T Energy Hydrocarbon’s role in delivering complex hydrocarbon infrastructure projects.

The announcement did not disclose financial terms beyond the company’s classification of order size, nor were commissioning timelines provided. Execution will involve phased commissioning and testing of storage and pipeline systems prior to full export operations. The work will enhance Kuwait’s crude export capabilities and support future production and logistics planning.

The execution is organised around integrated project management and staged procurement to align material supply with construction sequences while maintaining safety and quality control throughout. The company will deploy experienced engineering teams and established project management systems to coordinate onshore deliveries, testing and commissioning. Close collaboration with Kuwait Oil Company and regulatory authorities will govern inspection and acceptance procedures.
