India's petroleum consumption moved in different directions in July 2026 as road fuels strengthened while liquefied petroleum gas use fell sharply. Petrol demand rose by eight point six five per cent to 3,795 thousand t in July 2026 from 3,493 thousand t a year earlier and was 15.09 per cent higher than the 3,297 thousand t in July 2024. The provisional Petroleum Planning and Analysis flash report attributed the monthly gain to stronger road transport activity.

Diesel consumption increased by nine point four one per cent to 8,049 thousand t from 7,356 thousand t in July 2025 and was up 11.89 per cent versus July 2024. On a cumulative basis for fiscal 2027, petrol rose by 6.14 per cent to 15,120 thousand t while diesel climbed by 3.84 per cent to 33,557 thousand t. The monthly strength in road fuels supported the cumulative improvements.

In contrast, LPG demand plunged by seventeen point four two per cent to 2,373 thousand t in July from 2,630 thousand t a year earlier and remained 13.29 per cent below the July 2024 level of 2,399 thousand t. Cumulative LPG consumption contracted by 16.28 per cent to 8,866 thousand t from 10,590 thousand t, the steepest fall among the four petroleum products covered in the flash report.

Aviation turbine fuel use eased by one point four four per cent to 699 thousand t in July from 710 thousand t and was down 3.74 per cent versus July 2024. Cumulative ATF slipped by 1.04 per cent to 2,957 thousand t from 2,988 thousand t. The provisional government data provided the basis for the monthly and cumulative comparisons and will inform supply and policy decisions as the fiscal year progresses.
