Gujarat Energy (GEL) has raised the domestic piped natural gas tariff for cooking by Rs 1.19 per standard cubic metre (SCM), with the revision taking effect from September three. The company informed consumers of the change via SMS and indicated the adjustment applies to domestic PNG connections across its distribution network. The notice replaces the previous per unit charge and is reflected in billing from the effective date.

The domestic PNG rate has been increased from Rs 49.03 to Rs 50.22 per SCM before taxes. Including applicable levies, consumers will now be billed at Rs 53.22 per SCM, which represents the customer payable figure on invoices. The firm framed the move as an adjustment to recover cost inputs and regulatory charges. The change will be reflected in invoices from the next billing cycle.

Surat forms a sizeable portion of the customer base, with more than 0.7 million (mn) households connected to GEL’s network, and the revision is therefore likely to affect many domestic consumers. PNG is primarily used for cooking, so changes in the per unit tariff directly translate into household expenditure variations depending on consumption patterns. The company’s communication stressed that the increase applies uniformly to domestic PNG customers within its supply area.

Households will incur an additional Rs one point one nine per SCM before taxes compared with the earlier rate, which will raise monthly bills proportionately for those with higher usage. Consumers are advised to consult their bills and supplier notices for the precise impact on billing cycles and tax inclusions. Customer service channels are available for clarification. The adjustment follows the company’s internal tariff review and has been implemented with immediate effect.
