Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) has secured a Rs 5.24 billion contract from NHPC Limited for works at the Salal Power Station in Jammu & Kashmir.

The project involves civil and hydro-mechanical works, along with associated ancillary and enabling works, to make the undersluices of the concrete dam fully functional and operational. The contract is scheduled to be completed within 27 months.

The rehabilitation of the undersluices is expected to improve the operational efficiency of the Salal Power Station, enhance sediment management and strengthen the long-term safety and reliability of the dam.

The contract adds to HCC's four-decade presence in Jammu & Kashmir, where the company has executed several major hydroelectric and infrastructure projects.

HCC was involved in the construction of the 690 MW Salal Hydroelectric Project, which was commissioned in 1987. It has also constructed the 240 MW Uri-II, 333 MW Kishanganga, 45 MW Nimoo Bazgo and 44 MW Chutak hydroelectric projects.

Together, these projects represent an installed capacity of 1,352 MW, accounting for around 38% of Jammu & Kashmir's total installed hydropower capacity.

Beyond hydropower, HCC constructed India's first cable-stayed railway bridge at Anji Khad. The company also executed nearly 32 km of tunnels for the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project, representing about 27% of the project's total tunnel length.
