HCC Secures Rs 5,241.7 Million (mn) NHPC Contract in J&K

Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has secured a Rs 5,241.7 million (mn) contract from NHPC Limited (NHPC) to undertake civil and hydro-mechanical works at the Salal Power Station in Jammu and Kashmir. The award covers civil, hydro-mechanical and associated ancillary and enabling works required to restore the undersluices of the concrete dam. The project follows formal allocation through a competitive procurement process and is to be executed under established contractual terms.

The contract has a duration of 27 months and is intended to make the undersluices fully functional and operational. The rehabilitation programme is expected to enhance the dam's operational efficiency and improve sediment management while also contributing to the long-term safety and reliability of the facility. Work sequencing will be planned to limit disruption to power generation and to allow safe access for specialised hydro-mechanical teams.

The Salal Power Station is one of NHPC's principal hydroelectric assets and plays a key role in regional power supply and water management. HCC, an infrastructure company with experience in large civil and hydro-mechanical projects, will be responsible for delivering the technical and site management requirements of the contract. The company outlined that the scope includes refurbishment of mechanical gates, concrete repairs and associated enabling works to support operational integrity.

Completion of the package within the specified timeline is expected to enable phased reinstatement of full dam functions and to improve sediment control measures that affect reservoir performance. The award highlights continued investment in maintenance and rehabilitation of hydroelectric infrastructure by public sector developers. The transaction will be reported in company disclosures and monitored by stakeholders for its contribution to asset longevity and regional energy resilience.
