Juniper Green Energy has commissioned 60 megawatt-hour (MWh) of its 100 MWh merchant Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at Bikaner in Rajasthan, marking a key milestone in the company’s expansion into energy storage. The project has been developed through its subsidiary, Juniper Green Cosmic.

This commissioning represents Juniper Green Energy’s first operational merchant BESS, positioning the company among the early movers in India’s rapidly evolving energy storage market. The commissioned capacity has successfully completed trial operations and has received regulatory approval from the Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC). Commercial operations for the 60 MWh capacity commenced on December 24, 2025.

The remaining 40 MWh capacity of the project is expected to be commissioned shortly. Once fully operational, the 100 MWh Bikaner facility will rank among the largest operating BESS projects in India. The project is expected to unlock multiple merchant revenue opportunities, including peak power arbitrage, grid balancing services and participation in ancillary service markets.

In parallel with the Bikaner commissioning, Juniper Green Energy has already installed an additional 400 MWh of BESS capacity at Fatehgarh in Rajasthan. This capacity is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2026, further strengthening the company’s energy storage portfolio and enhancing long-term growth visibility.

Battery Energy Storage Systems are increasingly viewed as a critical enabler of India’s energy transition, supporting grid stability, renewable energy integration, peak demand management and more efficient use of transmission infrastructure. As part of its long-term strategy, Juniper Green Energy plans to deploy BESS capacity across all its solar project sites connected to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS), creating an integrated renewable-plus-storage platform.
