As of 31 October 2025, Karnataka has installed 25,675.39 MW of renewable energy capacity, representing around 10.24 per cent of India’s total 2,50,643.45 MW renewable energy capacity.

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) is a demand-driven scheme enabling all residential consumers with a grid-connected DISCOM supply to install rooftop solar (RTS) systems by applying through the National Portal. As of 26 November 2025, a total of 1,872,499 RTS systems have been installed nationwide, benefitting 2,347,694 households. Karnataka accounts for 14,151 such installations, benefitting 22,313 households.

In Belagavi district, 25,778 applications have been submitted and 681 households have received RTS installations under the scheme as of 26 November 2025.

To accelerate progress towards the national target of installing rooftop solar in one crore households by 2026–27, including those in Belagavi, the Ministry has undertaken several measures:

A fully online process from registration to subsidy disbursal directly to consumers’ bank accounts.

Collateral-free loans from nationalised banks at concessional interest rates (repo rate plus 50 bps, currently 6 per cent per annum) with a 10-year tenure. As of November 2025, 567,939 RTS systems have been installed using such loans.

Simplified regulatory approvals, including waiver of technical feasibility and automatic load enhancement up to 10 kW.

Inclusion of RESCO / Utility-led Aggregation models.

Net metering agreements integrated into the National Portal application.

Simplified vendor registration, with 20,423 vendors registered as of 11 November 2025.

Capacity-building programmes that have trained 149,916 people as of 11 November 2025.

Extensive awareness campaigns through print, television, radio and regional media.

Regular monitoring of progress with states and DISCOMs, including regional review meetings such as the North East Region meeting held in Guwahati on 31 October 2025.

A grievance redressal mechanism, supported by a multilingual call centre (15555).

Under the Solar Parks and Ultra-Mega Solar Power Projects scheme, Rs 3.5194 billion has been released as Central Financial Assistance for the development of the 2,000 MW Pavagada Solar Park and its evacuation infrastructure. The park has been fully operational since December 2019. Key learnings for future projects include securing timely land availability and early planning of transmission infrastructure.

According to inputs from the Government of Karnataka, there are currently no plans to develop solar or wind parks in North Karnataka, including Belagavi district.
