The Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is set for a major lighting upgrade, with the Noida Authority approving a project to install 1,200 solar-powered streetlights along the corridor. The scheme will include a 2.4 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to keep lights operating during grid outages. Tata Projects has been commissioned to carry out the installation and associated works.\n\nThe upgrade is designed to eliminate dark stretches caused by power failures and to improve visibility for commuters travelling between Noida and Greater Noida, particularly after dark and during winter. The Noida Authority said the project will increase lux levels along the expressway, providing brighter and more consistent illumination. The works form part of a wider municipal smart-lighting programme.\n\nThe battery storage system will allow lighting to draw power from the BESS instead of waiting for grid electricity to return, helping to maintain continuous illumination across the corridor. The 24.53-kilometre, six-lane expressway runs from the Mahamaya Flyover to Pari Chowk and provides links to the Yamuna Expressway, the DND Flyway and the national capital. Those features make reliable lighting important for both daily commuters and commercial traffic.\n\nThe corridor reportedly carries more than 80,000 vehicles a day, increasing the importance of consistent street illumination for safety and navigation. Tata Projects has already installed more than 76,000 LED streetlights across Noida as part of the same initiative. Residents are able to report faulty streetlights through the Noida Smart LED Light app.\n\nComplaints are electronically tracked until resolution and a toll-free helpline, 1800-102-9574, is available for reporting streetlight issues. Officials anticipate the new installation will reduce outages, improve road safety and lower maintenance response times. The project is expected to be rolled out in phases along the busiest stretches of the corridor.
