NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewable arm of NTPC Renewable Energy, has commissioned 150 megawatt (MW) of a 300 MW solar project in Rajasthan, advancing its deployment in the state. The deployment forms part of NGEL's broader programme to expand utility scale renewable generation across India. The development was announced by the company as part of ongoing capacity additions.

The Rajasthan installation is owned by Project Sixteen Renewable Power Private Limited, a subsidiary of the joint venture ONGC NTPC Green Private Limited, and has entered commercial operation. The commissioning raises NGEL's commercial capacity to 10,126.40 MW and increases the group's total installed capacity to 10,276.40 MW.

The chief executive officer indicated that the company remains on track to meet an annual renewable energy capacity addition target of five GW, with around 5,200 MW expected to be added on a year on year basis. The company has already added about 2,000 MW and the remaining capacity additions are expected to be completed within the next two months.

Upcoming contributions to the pipeline include around 1,000 MW from Khavda, 200 MW from Bhadla and 250 MW from Kalasar, alongside approximately 300 MW of wind capacity from Gujarat plants and between 500 and 550 MW from the Ayana portfolio. Collectively these projects are forecast to provide an additional 2,300 to 2,400 MW, which would enable NGEL to meet the five GW target for the year.

Looking further ahead, NGEL plans capacity additions of eight GW in FY27 and a further eight GW in FY28 and has commenced work on projects to support this pipeline. Work already under way on the identified sites aims to move projects from planning to operation within the established timelines. The company continues to accelerate deployment as part of its broader renewable expansion strategy.
