NTPC Green Energy Signs MoU for Green Hydrogen at VOC Port

NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. The agreement focuses on promoting green energy technologies at VOC Port, with a special emphasis on the green hydrogen mobility initiative.
The MoU was exchanged between Shri Kishore Kumar Hota, CGM, NTPC, and Shri A. Ganesan, CME, VOCPA, in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal; Tamil Nadu Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Smt. Geeta Jeevan; MLA Shri Nainar Nagendran; Shri T. K. Ramachandran, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways; VOCPA Chairman Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit; and senior officials from the Tamil Nadu government, NTPC, and VOCPA.
Under the agreement, NGEL will establish a green hydrogen fuelling station at VOC Port and deploy hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine trucks for port operations. The initiative aims to phase out fossil fuel trucks, advancing decarbonisation and energy security.
NTPC has already been operating a green hydrogen blending project in Surat, Gujarat, for over two years and has implemented similar mobility initiatives at Leh, Ladakh; Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh; Bhubaneshwar, Odisha; and Kandla Port, Gujarat. NGEL is also developing a green hydrogen hub in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and targets 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, including energy storage solutions.
