NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated power utility, signed a memorandum of understanding with Octopus Energy Group, a United Kingdom based leader in clean energy and digital energy platforms, to explore strategic collaboration across the power and energy sector at the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026. The agreement was formalised on 19 March 2026 on the sidelines of the summit, which ran from 19 to 22 March 2026 under the aegis of the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The MoU was signed by Dr Jatinder Singh Chandok, head of International Business Development at NTPC, and Mr Chris Fitzgerald, group director for international affairs at Octopus Energy, in the presence of senior officials from the ministry and NTPC.

The non binding framework establishes cooperation to identify, assess and pursue opportunities in electricity distribution and retail, renewable energy and storage, and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. It also covers digital energy platforms, innovation, research and development and capacity building to strengthen utilities and customer centric power solutions. The collaboration is intended to foster integrated approaches that combine NTPC’s scale and local expertise with Octopus Energy’s digital technologies and market models.

Partnership activities will focus on India and the United Kingdom, with scope to extend to other mutually agreed geographies, and will aim to enhance efficiency, affordability and reliability while accelerating clean energy adoption. Workstreams are expected to consider business models for distributed energy resources, grid friendly EV charging and system level storage that support renewable integration. The framework is non binding and provides a basis for detailed project level agreements and pilot demonstrations.

Stakeholders indicated that the alliance seeks to promote capacity building and skills transfer alongside technology deployment to ensure sustainable outcomes. NTPC and Octopus Energy may pursue joint pilots, knowledge exchange and commercial arrangements that respond to evolving market needs and policy objectives. Officials noted that the partnership aligns with wider efforts to modernise electricity systems and to deliver customer centric, affordable and reliable power.
