Perkins Begins Production of 5016 Power Generation Engine

Perkins has commenced production of its new 5016 full-authority electronic engine, completing its 5000 Series range of 6-, 8-, 12- and 16-cylinder engines. Manufactured in Stafford, UK, and Aurangabad, India, the range delivers up to 2,500 kVA of standby power and 2,250 kVA of prime power.

The 61-litre V16 engine delivers 1,400–2,500 kVA at 50 Hz for base load, prime and standby applications. Designed for power generation, it supports critical infrastructure, including data centres, hospitals, airports and remote worksites.

Engineered to meet ISO G3 and NFPA110 standards, the 5016 incorporates advanced turbocharging technology and electronically controlled fuel injection to improve load acceptance, fuel efficiency and operational reliability.

The engine's low-pressure fuel system accommodates variations in fuel quality and supports biodiesel blends up to B20 and 100 per cent hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). Extended 750-hour service intervals help reduce maintenance requirements and operating costs.

The 60 Hz configuration meets US EPA Tier 2 Emergency Stationary emission standards, while the 50 Hz version offers fuel-optimised configurations with equivalent emission levels.

Dan Bentley, EAME Sales Director at Perkins, said the introduction of the 5016 completes the company's comprehensive electronic engine range for prime and critical standby applications.

The compact engine is supported by Perkins' global distributor network, offering maintenance, connectivity and condition-monitoring services through Perkins Hypercare and Platinum Protection.
