Roofsol Energy Pvt Ltd has signed a power purchase agreement with Mukand Sumi Special Steel Ltd for the development of a three point seven megawatt peak (MWp) OPEX based solar power project in Koppal, Karnataka. The agreement will enable the steel manufacturer to integrate renewable energy into its manufacturing operations and to procure solar power under an operating expenditure model. The project is intended to reduce reliance on grid electricity and to support cost efficient energy supply for production.

Mukand Sumi Special Steel, a manufacturer of special and alloy steel products serving industrial applications across India and international markets, will receive solar generation dedicated to its facility. Roofsol Energy will deliver the project under an OPEX arrangement and retain ownership while supplying energy to the customer under the PPA. The transaction reflects growing demand among energy intensive manufacturers for third party solar solutions.

For Roofsol Energy the Koppal initiative reinforces its presence in the commercial and industrial solar segment and expands its pipeline of OPEX projects for manufacturing clients. The developer reported that the Koppal scheme marks its fifth solar project with a reputed steel manufacturer in 2026 and forms part of a strategy to target energy intensive industries seeking cleaner energy sources. The deal adds to Roofsol Energy's portfolio of projects serving manufacturing customers.

Industry observers say the adoption of OPEX models continues to rise as companies seek predictable operating costs and access to renewable power without upfront capital expenditure. The latest PPA underscores increasing adoption of solar power within India’s industrial sector and the role of developers in enabling on site or nearby generation to meet corporate sustainability objectives.
