Samko Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of Samko Holdings UK, and SRAM & MRAM Projects of the SRAM & MRAM Group have formed a joint venture, Samko SRAM & MRAM BESS, to spearhead the Nikola Tesla Smart City Project. The initiative aims to develop integrated manufacturing townships that will feature Gigafactories, commercial towers, retail complexes, leisure zones, and resort-style infrastructure. The first cluster is planned for Tamil Nadu, with a parallel rollout in the United Kingdom.

Positioned as a multi-billion-dollar global programme, the project envisions Gigafactory-scale developments on land parcels of at least 100 acres. Each township is expected to be completed within 18 months and will incorporate advanced automation, renewable-energy systems, and circular-economy production models. The plan aligns with the international shift towards clean-energy ecosystems and high-tech industrial clusters.

Under the partnership, the SRAM & MRAM Group will provide technological expertise, global partnerships and offtake arrangements, including collaborations with Tesla Group and related entities. It will also support the venture in securing government grants and credit facilities across participating countries. Samko Renewable Energy will oversee financing coordination, land acquisition, operational planning and working-capital management.

Dr Sailesh L Hiranandani, chairman of the SRAM & MRAM Group, said the collaboration with Samko and TESLA Group a.s. is expected to drive advances in renewable energy and biotechnology, while creating employment and strengthening technological capabilities. Nanda Bhagi, president of TESLA Group Global, noted that the alliance will extend beyond energy storage to include manufacturing and energy-storage facilities across multiple international locations, with immediate focus on Tamil Nadu and the UK. He added that the project aims to establish a self-sustaining township model built around Gigafactories and modern urban amenities.

Industry figure Sampath Kumar Mallaya has been involved in finalising the project sites in Tamil Nadu and the UK, marking India’s first integrated smart-city programme with a Gigafactory at its core under the Nikola Tesla branding. Vaidyanathan, CEO of Samko Holdings, played a key role in developing Samko’s technology stack and strengthening its strategic partnership with SRAM for the project’s execution.
