State Speeds Up PM-KUSUM Solarisation

The energy special chief secretary, K Vijayanand, stated that Andhra Pradesh had taken up 1,162.8 MW of feeder-level solarisation capacity through 228 solar power plants across the state under Component-C of the PM-KUSUM scheme. He reviewed progress of the projects via a video conference with the chief managing directors and directors of the distribution companies and with the managing director of NREDCAP. He directed officials to expedite implementation and adhere to stipulated timelines.

The state is targeting commissioning of 109.7 MW during September and October to strengthen renewable power generation and ensure reliable daytime power supply to agricultural feeders. The projects are being implemented by Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Limited (APCPDCL), Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) and Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL), including the Krishna Regional Electricity Cooperative Society (KRECS). He asked officials and developers to focus on commissioning schedules and operational readiness.

Land acquisition has been completed for all 228 plants, and officials were instructed to monitor civil works, equipment procurement, financial closure and statutory documentation on a project-wise basis. The authority stressed the need to resolve implementation bottlenecks at the initial stage to avoid delays. APCPDCL is implementing 49 plants with 191.5 MW, APEPDCL is executing 33 plants with 220.3 MW, and APSPDCL and KRECS account for the largest share with 146 plants totalling 751 MW.

A three MW feeder-level solar plant at the 33 kV NN Tandra sub-station in the Palnadu circle was commissioned on 27 August, and a further 109.7 MW is planned for commissioning during September and October. Timely completion, the review noted, would help Andhra Pradesh secure maximum central financial assistance under PM-KUSUM and bolster the state transition to clean energy while providing quality daytime power to the agricultural sector.
