The Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (TGREDCO) has identified 80 villages across the state to become ‘model solar villages’. The initiative involves setting up two-megawatt solar power plants in each village, to be implemented via women’s self-help groups.
Land has already been allotted at Lakshmidevipalli in Sujathanagar and Udathneni Gumpu in Manuguru mandals for the first plants. A plan was also directed for a solar plant at the Sri Sitarama Chandra Swamy Temple in Bhadrachalam under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
One of the selected villages is Gandugulapalli in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, marked out as a model site to demonstrate the concept of solar-powered rural communities. The move reflects Telangana’s commitment to expanding clean energy access and empowering local women’s groups in the renewable sector.
