TNPDCL Awards 558 MW Supply Contract to Adani Power

The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited issued a letter of award to Adani Power's subsidiary, Moxie Power Generation Ltd, after a competitive bidding process for the supply of 558 megawatt (MW) for five years. Adani Power, described as India's largest private power producer, has an installed capacity of 18.15 gigawatt (GW) and Moxie emerged as the lowest bidder with a tariff of Rs five point nine one per unit. The power supply under the contract is scheduled to commence from 1 April 2026.

Moxie Power operates a 1,200 MW thermal plant in Thoothukudi that comprises two 600 MW units, and the latest award means both units are now tied up under power supply agreements. The arrangement extends the company’s contracted portfolio and aligns with its stated strategy to secure medium to long term sales. The award follows standard procurement procedures undertaken by the distribution utility.

The company reported that more than 95 per cent of its total operating capacity is currently secured through medium to long term power purchase agreements, providing long term revenue visibility and reducing exposure to short term market volatility. It aims to achieve near one hundred per cent contract coverage for operational and under construction plants in the coming years. The additional contract is part of that effort to lock in stable offtake.

The fresh 558 MW of contracted capacity is expected to strengthen power availability in Tamil Nadu, improve grid stability and support uninterrupted electricity supply to households, businesses and industries. Securing power at a competitive tariff is expected to help ensure more affordable and dependable electricity for consumers over the duration of the contract. The supply award also contributes to the distribution utility's ability to manage demand during peak periods.
