Vikram Solar Secures 400 MW Module Order in Maharashtra
The contract is scheduled for completion by March 2027, with module supplies due to begin in October 2026. Vikram Solar will provide N-Type TOPCon G12R modules with glass-to-glass construction, bifacial technology and half-cut cells, each offering a capacity of 620 Wp.
Agricultural feeder solarisation is intended to improve daytime electricity access for farmers while supporting irrigation and reducing pressure on conventional power systems. Decentralised projects can generate electricity closer to consumption centres, potentially improving grid resilience as India expands its renewable energy capacity.
Maharashtra has attracted significant investment in distributed renewable energy for agriculture. The Asian Development Bank approved a $460 mn results-based loan last year for the Maharashtra Power Distribution Enhancement Programme for Agricultural Solarisation, alongside a $40 mn concessional loan from the Clean Technology Fund administered by the bank.
The programme is designed to modernise rural power infrastructure, promote distributed generation and improve agricultural productivity through reliable daytime solar electricity. The funding is also intended to reduce power purchase costs and distribution losses, while lowering transformer failure rates by 25 per cent.
The state has received further attention for its agricultural solar initiatives through the International Solar Alliance, which is expected to study Maharashtra’s solar energy programme. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said the state accounts for 60 per cent of solar pumps installed in India and leads deployment under the PM-KUSUM scheme. The latest order adds to the state’s pipeline of decentralised solar projects and gives Vikram Solar a scheduled supply programme extending into FY27.
