Workshop on Green Hydrogen to Boost India-UK Cooperation

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in collaboration with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the UK Government's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), organized a two-day India-UK Standards Partnership Workshop on Green Hydrogen in New Delhi. The workshop aimed to enhance India-UK cooperation in hydrogen standardization, focusing on green hydrogen production and regulations.

This event was part of a broader initiative under the UK Government's Standards Partnership Programme, designed to increase the use of international standards in India. The objective is to accelerate growth, attract investment, and boost trade by promoting safe, scalable, and globally harmonized regulations, codes, and standards (RCS). One key area of focus was the fast-track adoption of Publicly Available Specification (PAS) standards and global hydrogen certification.

The workshop also aligned with BIS’s efforts under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, helping to identify gaps in standards, explore new areas of development, and facilitate collaboration with experts. It provided a platform for discussing global best practices in certification, testing, and standardization, which will support the growth of a competitive and sustainable green hydrogen market in India.

The event brought together policymakers, technical experts, and industry leaders from both India and the UK. It was inaugurated by Rajiv Sharma, Deputy Director General (Standardization-I) at BIS, along with Laura Aylett, Head of Climate and Energy at the British High Commission, and Abbey Dorian, Energy Sector Lead at BSI. The workshop highlighted the shared vision of India and the UK to foster innovation and sustainability within the green hydrogen sector.
