JCB’s hydrogen-powered Hydromax has achieved an average speed of 406.320 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the United States, setting a new hydrogen internal combustion land speed benchmark, subject to FIA ratification. The twin-engined vehicle completed runs of 400.623 mph and 412.135 mph in opposite directions within an hour. Its two production-based hydrogen engines deliver a combined 1,600 bhp. JCB has invested £100 million in hydrogen engine development, with the technology also entering construction equipment production.
