The Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned 17,912 houses at a project cost of Rs 4,478 million (mn) under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 beneficiary-led construction scheme for 2025-26 and 2026-27. Housing special secretary Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said the unit cost of each house is Rs 0.25 million (mn), with 60 per cent, or Rs 0.15 mn, provided as assistance by the Government of India and the remaining 40 per cent, or Rs 0.10 mn, borne by the state government. The administrative sanction followed a detailed examination of reports from the managing director of the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation Limited.

According to the managing director, the Central Sanctioning-cum-Monitoring Committee of the ministry of housing and urban affairs had considered a proposal for 893 houses for 2025-26 at a project cost of Rs 220 mn. The committee also considered 4,649 houses for 2025-26 at Rs 1,160 mn and another 12,370 houses for 2026-27 at Rs 3,090 mn. The approvals were recorded in the committee proceedings and communicated to state authorities for further action. The allocations reflect central and state sharing norms under the scheme.

Korlapati emphasised that beneficiaries will be required to meet any additional cost necessary to complete houses beyond the sanctioned unit cost. The order clarifies that the sanctioned assistance covers construction up to the specified unit amount and does not extend to upgrades or extras. The state housing corporation will coordinate beneficiary lists and disbursements while monitoring compliance with technical and financial guidelines. Local urban bodies are to assist in verification and ensure that construction adheres to approved specifications.

The beneficiary-led construction component is aimed at enabling eligible urban households to build or augment their homes with defined assistance from centre and state. The central Sanctioning-cum-Monitoring Committee and the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation will continue to oversee implementation and reporting. Officials indicated that the administrative sanction for the combined years is intended to expedite fund flow and permit scheduled construction activity. The government urged stakeholders to follow prescribed procedures to facilitate timely delivery of houses.
