Railway officials have completed the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Hyderabad-Pune-Mumbai high speed rail corridor, covering a 671-km stretch, and the plan identifies land acquisition of nearly 93 km within Telangana. The matter was reviewed by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao at a meeting with senior state and railway authorities. The review focused on three high speed corridors announced in the Union Budget 2026-27 that will connect Hyderabad with Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru.

Officials reported that, in addition to the Hyderabad-Pune-Mumbai corridor, about 123 km of land acquisition will be required for the Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Chennai corridors. The meeting noted that land will also be needed in Kokapet and Shamshabad for the establishment of railway depots. The Chief Secretary instructed officials to prepare coordinated proposals with the state government and the Union Ministry of Railways.

He directed departments to work closely on land acquisition, connectivity and infrastructure and asked the roads and buildings department, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and GMR Hyderabad Airport (GMR Airport) to extend full support to project authorities. Special Chief Secretaries Vikas Raj and Navin Mittal and HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed attended alongside representatives of the Union Ministry of Railways and the GMR Airport. Officials were asked to take necessary steps to expedite project reports and implementation.

Ramakrishna Rao observed that the proposed high speed rail projects would help transform the state into a Telangana Rising 2047 Economic Growth Corridor and would evolve into a modern rapid transportation system for the country. He said the network is expected to support future public transport needs while providing a boost to industrial, information technology and tourism sectors. The government has been urged to ensure close coordination among all stakeholders to advance the projects.
