Something has changed radically in the Indian construction industry. India used to look up to Western countries, especially Scandinavian countries and Austria, for their construction technology prowess. But, today, our technology implementation has attracted the attention of the world, especially our high-altitude tunnels, according to Lt Gen (Retd) Rajeev Chaudhry, Former Director General, Border Roads Organisation, and Chairman, RAHSTA EXPO Committee.
That’s because India is now home to the world’s highest rail bridge, the Chenab bridge, the longest single tube highway tunnel above 10,000 ft, the Atal tunnel, and the highest multi span bridge in the world, the Brangza bridge on Shyok river. As we write this, the world’s highest tunnel, the Shinkula tunnel, is under construction as is the world’s highest motorable road, the Likaru-Migla-Fukche road, at 19,400 ft...
