ITI Limited, India’s first PSU established after independence and a leading telecom manufacturer, has been recognised by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its contribution to the successful launch of the NASA–ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite on 30 July 2025. The appreciation highlights ITI’s timely realisation of avionics systems while meeting all quality standards set by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).
The landmark mission was carried out by ISRO’s GSLV-F16 rocket, which placed the 2,393 kg NISAR satellite into its intended orbit from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. This mission represents the first joint Earth-observing initiative between NASA and ISRO.
ITI Limited’s Palakkad unit played a key role, delivering 28 avionics packages and 18 Head-end Mounted Safe Arm (HMSA) packages that successfully flew on the satellite. The company has consistently supported ISRO in multiple missions, including Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, Aditya L1, and the LVM3 M2/OneWeb India-1 Mission.
NISAR, developed at an estimated cost of US$1.5 billion, is set to become the world’s most expensive Earth-imaging satellite. Equipped with advanced dual-band radar, it will study detailed changes on the Earth’s surface and deliver high-speed data critical for climate and environmental research.
Management Remarks
Rajesh Rai, Chairman and Managing Director of ITI Limited, said:
“It is a proud moment for ITI to receive this appreciation from ISRO. Our Palakkad unit’s world-class manufacturing capabilities have consistently earned ISRO’s trust. We are honoured to be recognised as a dependable partner in space exploration and look forward to supporting future missions, including Gaganyaan.”
Ms Sheena Abraham, Group Director of the Electronics Production Group at ISRO’s Electronics Systems Actuators Entity (ESAE), added:
“The unwavering support of industries like ITI in adhering to ISRO’s standards was pivotal in the success of the NISAR mission. We commend Team ITI Palakkad for their dedication and contribution to this landmark joint venture.”
With repeated recognition from ISRO, ITI Limited has established itself as a trusted partner for avionics system realisation in India’s most ambitious space missions.
