SPML Infra's 104.4 kWh BESS Battery Pack Clears Global Tests

SPML Infra has announced that its proprietary 104.4 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) battery pack has completed key international safety, performance and transportation testing and certification requirements, marking a step towards its commercial deployment.

Developed under the company's own intellectual property, the battery pack has completed requirements under UL9540A, IEC 62619, IEC 63056, IEC 60730, IEC 61000-6-2, IEC 61000-6-4 and UN38.3 standards.

The testing covers areas including thermal runaway safety, battery performance, system functional safety, electromagnetic compatibility and transportation safety.

SPML Infra is developing the battery pack as part of its strategy to build indigenous technology and manufacturing capabilities for India's growing grid-scale energy storage market.

The company is establishing BESS manufacturing and system integration capabilities in Pune, Maharashtra. These facilities are expected to support battery pack assembly, engineering, system integration and large-scale project execution.

Abhinandan Sethi, Managing Director of SPML Infra, said the completion of the certification and testing requirements was an important milestone in the company's energy storage plans.

The company aims to build an integrated BESS platform covering product development, manufacturing, system integration and project execution.

Energy storage is expected to play an increasing role in supporting renewable energy integration, grid balancing, peak-load management and grid reliability as India's renewable energy capacity expands.

SPML Infra said the successful testing of its 104.4 kWh battery pack moves the company closer to commercialising its BESS technology and manufacturing platform for the utility-scale energy storage market.
