Nippon Paint Launches Smart Coating to Tackle Urban Heat Impact

Nippon Paint has introduced the Walltron Advance Thermal Comfort Solutions (WATCS), a next-generation coating system tailored to meet India’s rising temperatures and growing energy demands. This advanced solution helps maintain cooler indoor conditions, reduces air-conditioning reliance, and promotes sustainable construction in both residential and commercial sectors.

In cities where surface temperatures soar up to 70°C due to the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect, WATCS offers a scientifically engineered solution. The system comprises three layers designed to reflect heat, reduce thermal absorption, and enhance energy efficiency.

 The components include:

Insulprime: A high-penetration primer that seals surfaces for strong adhesion.

Insulcoat: A thermal insulation layer with Expancel technology that expands to block heat transfer.

Insulshield: A high-performance top coat with a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) of 108, capable of reflecting over 90 per cent of heat.

Together, the layers can lower surface temperatures by up to 25°C and reduce cooling energy use by up to 30 per cent. In addition to thermal comfort, the system offers waterproofing, enhanced durability, and low maintenance — ideal for India’s varied climatic zones.

“Sustainability is at the heart of Nippon Paint’s innovation. With WATCS, we continue our commitment to delivering environmentally responsible, high-performance solutions that meet the evolving challenges of urban living,” the company stated.
