Fifteen Workers Rescued After Iron Slab Collapse in Gandhinagar

Fifteen workers were rescued after a large iron slab collapsed at a construction site in the Kudasan area of Gandhinagar at around nine pm on Wednesday. The collapse occurred during ongoing work and prompted an immediate debris-clearing and rescue operation led by local authorities. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said teams continued to clear rubble through the night to ensure no one remained trapped and that the rescue effort recovered all individuals from the site.

Twelve of the rescued workers were admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital with injuries of varying severity, while three who did not suffer major harm were discharged after receiving care at the scene, health officials said. The hospital superintendent later conveyed that the twelve patients were stable and none were in critical condition, and medical teams were monitoring them for complications. Ambulances and emergency personnel had been deployed promptly and remained on site to assist with transfers and treatment.

State health authorities and local police coordinated the response, with district emergency services, municipal teams and site engineers participating in clearance and safety checks. Sanghavi inspected the scene and outlined measures to secure the area, and the state health minister indicated that injured workers had been moved to hospital for further observation. Rescue teams used cranes and manual labour to lift debris and probe voids, and officials described the operation as meticulous to prevent secondary collapses.

An initial assessment by municipal engineers was underway to determine the cause of the slab failure and to establish whether safety protocols had been followed during construction. Local officials said they would continue to support the families of the affected workers and to review site practices to avert similar incidents. No fatalities were reported and the ongoing focus remained on medical care for the injured and a thorough investigation of the collapse.
