Final e-KYC Notice For LPG Customers

Many domestic LPG consumers have been receiving text messages urging completion of biometric Aadhaar authentication, known as e-KYC, by 16 August 2026 to remain eligible for cylinders at domestic rates. The communication instructs customers to complete e-KYC at home through the IndianOil ONE App, at their distributor or via delivery personnel and warns that failure to comply by the deadline will render them ineligible for domestic rates until the process is completed. Indane is identified as the brand sending the messages. Authorities framed the notice as a final reminder after earlier prompts.

A 14.2kg LPG cylinder currently costs Rs968 in Calcutta and the subsidy credited to eligible consumers' bank accounts stands at Rs19.57 per cylinder. The messages have been directed to both Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries and general domestic consumers, as distributors and company platforms have issued parallel advisories. Company sources described the outreach as part of a broader compliance drive to authenticate recipients and safeguard subsidy delivery.

A regional association spokesperson reported that the majority of customers had completed biometric authentication but acknowledged that some remained outstanding and that the notice served as a final prompt. He indicated that after 16 August those who have not completed e-KYC would cease to receive the 14.2kg cylinder at Rs968 and that the revised rate for affected consumers had not been decided. He added that direct cash benefit transfers to continuing recipients would also be suspended until e-KYC was updated.

Industry sources estimated that Bengal has around 14 million (mn) non-Ujjwala LPG consumers, with Indane accounting for about nine mn connections. An Indian Oil official said about 77 per cent of these connections had completed e-KYC and urged the remainder to comply within the stipulated timeline. The company has adjusted domestic cylinder prices twice in recent months, raising the price by Rs29 on seven June and earlier by Rs60 on seven March amid elevated international energy costs, which have only partly offset losses on domestic sales.
