In Panaji the chief minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, announced that the state government will provide three free liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders to eligible residents every year by crediting Rs 3,000 into their bank accounts starting from September nine. He said forms to avail the benefit will be available at panchayats and with members of the legislative assembly from September five, and that those who complete and submit the required paperwork would begin to receive the payment. The scheme was presented as fulfilment of a promise made during the 2022 state assembly elections.

The financial assistance has been described by officials as sufficient to cover the cost of three cylinders under the arrangement and the credit is intended to enable beneficiaries to meet recurring cooking fuel expenses without delay. Residents who register for the scheme must submit copies of their bank passbook, Aadhaar card and voter identity card to receive the annual payment. The government will verify documentation before disbursing funds to ensure the support reaches intended households.

The scheme will be administered through local panchayats and the offices of legislators to facilitate enrolment across urban and rural areas and officials indicated that preparatory work will be undertaken ahead of the disbursal date. The first tranche of credits is scheduled to be routed from September nine and eligible applicants who submit forms from September five onwards are expected to be included in that cycle. Authorities have framed the measure as a targeted subsidy to reduce the cost burden of cooking fuel for households in the state.

The announcement was made at a public event in Panaji and reported by the Press Trust of India, with administrative instructions issued for local bodies to begin distribution of application forms. Officials outlined that compliance with documentation requirements will be necessary to receive the aid and that beneficiaries should ensure bank details are accurate to avoid delays. The government will monitor rollout and address implementation issues through designated local offices.
