Hindustan Zinc hosted G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Coal and Mines, at its Rajpura Dariba Complex in Rajasthan, where he reviewed technology-led underground mining, integrated smelting and community development programmes. The visit included a tour of the Sindesar Khurd Mine, described as one of the world’s largest silver-producing and technologically advanced underground mines, and the Dariba Smelting Complex, a modern smelting facility.\n\nThe minister observed that India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047 will be built on the strength of mineral resources, domestic capabilities and future-ready industries, and that Hindustan Zinc’s operations exemplify the evolving, technology-driven mining sector. The company’s annual refined metal production capacity of over 1.1 million tonnes (1.1 million tonnes) was noted as strategic for mineral security and for meeting raw material needs of infrastructure, manufacturing and energy transition.\n\nAt Sindesar Khurd, the minister reviewed safety systems, paste filling and tele-remote operations and visited the control room to assess remote-operated equipment that supports safer underground work. He was shown a presentation on the mine’s history and capacity, witnessed a demonstration by India’s first women mine rescue team and met 54 Zinc Ratna contract workers, women mining engineers and other employees during a canteen interaction to acknowledge their contribution.\n\nAt the Dariba Smelting Complex he examined the control room, cell house and cathode yard to understand integrated mining-to-metal capabilities and value-added production. He heard about the company’s inclusion efforts, including a 26.3 per cent women workforce, its Unchi Udaan programme and sustainability measures on resource efficiency, water stewardship and energy transition, and discussed the role of domestic mining in reducing import dependence and supporting long-term national economic resilience.
