India Drops Plans for Separate National Tourism Policy
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat stated that elements and action areas previously outlined in the draft policy document have been integrated into various schemes and guidelines. The Ministry remains open to continuous engagement with stakeholders.
Ongoing programs addressing tourism promotion, infrastructure development, industry competitiveness, and skill development include:
Swadesh Darshan PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) Dekho Apna Desh, Chalo India, Meet in India Paryatan Mitra/Paryatan Didi, Hunar Se Rozgar Tak The Ministry is working closely with Central Ministries, State/UT Governments, and the Tourism & Hospitality industry, ensuring a collaborative approach to tourism growth. The focus remains on enhancing existing initiatives rather than introducing a separate policy.
