Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said India will soon surpass the 300 gigawatt (GW) milestone for installed non-fossil fuel capacity, announcing the projection at the curtain-raiser for the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026. He noted the growth over the last decade, saying non-fossil fuel capacity had risen from nearly 75 GW to 297.36 GW, and that the country was on track to cross 300 GW in the coming days.

He highlighted that solar capacity had expanded markedly from around 2.8 GW in 2014 to 162 GW, representing a 58 times increase, while wind capacity increased from 21 GW to 57.4 GW and bioenergy rose from 8.1 GW to 12 GW over the same period. The minister also pointed to domestic manufacturing gains, noting solar module production capacity had grown from two GW to 200 GW and that cell manufacturing had expanded alongside it.

He said the Prime Minister will inaugurate the summit at Bharat Mandapam, which will run from second to fifth November and to which invitations have been extended to 34 nations. The minister referenced the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, stating that in a couple of weeks it would cross five million (mn) beneficiaries and households, and he urged global investors including venture capitalists, angel investors, pension funds and financial institutions to consider participation.

He described the summit as a platform for governments, industry leaders, investors, innovators, researchers, manufacturers, developers and entrepreneurs to translate ideas into investments and address shared challenges in the clean energy ecosystem. The event will feature an exhibition of technologies and products and he invited commissioners, members of government committees and international partners to reserve exhibition space and participate, noting that investment in the sector offers the potential for strong returns and stakes in one of the world's fastest growing clean energy markets.
