Indian Bank Sanctions Rs 10.2 Billion For MSME Retail Agriculture

Indian Bank has sanctioned Rs 10.2 billion (bn) to bolster lending across the micro, small and medium enterprises, retail and agriculture segments, the bank announced. The sanction is intended to augment credit flows to small businesses, individual borrowers and farm producers and to support working capital and investment needs across rural and urban areas. The bank indicated the move forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen financial inclusion and sustain credit momentum.

The resources will be deployed through existing lending products and priority schemes tailored to sectoral needs and seasonal cycles, the bank added. Emphasis will be placed on timely disbursal and simplified documentation to reduce friction for eligible borrowers and to accelerate fund utilisation. The lending drive is said to align with broader policy priorities to strengthen supply chains, stabilise incomes and facilitate capital expenditure among micro and small enterprises.

Bank officials described credit appraisal and risk monitoring as central to the programme and said digital channels and branch networks would be used to expedite processing. The institution reported that measures to monitor asset quality and to provide handholding support for first time borrowers are in place to mitigate repayment stress. It also noted collaboration with stakeholders to identify creditworthy units and to channel resources where the need is most acute.

The bank stated that disbursal progress will be tracked and that ongoing reviews will inform further sanctioning if demand warrants additional support. Observers noted the role of such targeted lending in maintaining economic activity and in cushioning vulnerable livelihoods without creating undue moral hazard. Indian Bank said it will continue to calibrate its approach to ensure sustainable credit delivery.
