Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) met Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises HD Kumaraswamy in New Delhi on Wednesday to seek central assistance for revival of the long?defunct Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit in Adilabad district, Telangana. He apprised the minister that the plant, established in the early 1980s, had once provided direct and indirect employment to nearly 6,000 people and remained strategically important for the local economy. The meeting formed part of sustained efforts by the party to secure federal support for regional industrial revival. The issue has been highlighted repeatedly at state and federal forums.

KTR recalled that the previous BRS government had undertaken measures to revive several sick industries during its tenure from 2014 to 2023 and had earlier pursued reopening of the Adilabad CCI unit, but the proposal did not elicit a response from the Centre. He presented details of the plant's infrastructure and the socio?economic rationale for revival, emphasising potential gains for local supply chains and ancillary businesses. The delegation sought clear indications of central willingness to back a reopening plan. Officials highlighted that reactivation would also address regional imbalances in industrial development.

Kumaraswamy indicated that revival appeared feasible provided the Telangana government extended the limestone mining lease for 50 years, offered a power subsidy and provided other incentives typically extended to industries in rural areas. He outlined conditional support mechanisms that would make investment and operational restart commercially viable and urged coordination between state and central authorities to finalise terms. The minister also suggested that timelines and technical assessments would be required before a formal commitment. He noted that technical surveys, environmental clearances and financing models would need alignment to proceed.

KTR urged the state government to cooperate with the Centre to secure the necessary leases and fiscal support, arguing that coordinated action would expedite project clearance and attract investors. He said reopening the CCI unit would generate employment opportunities, revive related businesses and boost economic activity in the Adilabad region. The delegation left New Delhi with an agreement to pursue follow up meetings and to prepare the documentation needed for central consideration. Local stakeholders had expressed support for measures that would restore manufacturing capacity and associated livelihoods.
